Somalia’s largest Money Transfer Company, Dahabshiil launches new electronic cash system Tuesday, in Hargeisa, officials told VOA. The General Manager of Dahabshiil Money Transfer, Abdirashid Mohamed Saed said the computer generated Internet based system will allow their customers to obtain debit cards to withdraw funds from Automated Teller Machines.

A money-transfer company has made a piece of banking history in Somalia – introducing the first-ever debit card in the breakaway region of Somaliland. The firm, Dahabshiil, hopes eventually to roll the system out to all Somali-speaking areas from Djibouti to Kenya.
